While You’re in Athens

UGA’s Oconee Forest Park is located on Lake Herrick behind the Intramural Fields and offers miles of beautiful natural-surface trails.

We’re so glad International GMP has brought you to our town. While you’re here, we hope you have the opportunity to explore Athens during your free time. See below for a few recommendations while you’re here!

Attractions & Culture

Cine: Athens’ own independent movie theater offers a quaint environment for those wishing to unwind from a long conference day by catching a flick downtown.

Creature Comforts Brewery: Situated in a former tire shop downtown, Creature Comforts has become a staple of Athens. Swing by while you’re exploring Athens to sample some signature brews like Athena.

Georgia Museum of Art: The Georgia Museum of Art offers free admission and is located on the east campus of UGA. However, conference attendees will notice that the conference mostly conflicts with the museum’s hours of operation. For those who want to make it happen, Sunday before 5 p.m. or Thursday following conference adjournment are possibilities!

The Arch: As a symbol of the University of Georgia and gateway to campus, the Arch is located downtown right off E. Broad Street. It leads to the gorgeous and historic North Campus, the oldest area of Athens.

The Tree That Owns Itself: You mean you’ve never heard of a tree exercising its property rights? Welcome to Athens!

Live Music

Music lovers wishing to decompress following a long day of GMP regulations, we recommend checking out these famous Athens music venues to see who’s performing. You can always find some live music in downtown Athens!
